Royal British Columbia Museum Online Death Search

This is an excellent resource for those researching ancestors who have settled in British Columbia.

For this blog I will show a search for the death of William Brown who was killed in and accident in 1882. I obtained this information from a response to a Rootsweb Message Board enquiry.

British Columbia Deaths Search Form

The image above is the basic search form. Please notice the two lines at the top. They show the date limits for each type of search.

Now, untick all the boxes except for ‘death’. Then enter William Brown – and the years 1880 to 1885. Then press the Search button.

If you repeat this search you will see that two records are returned. The William Brown I want was from the Nanaimo district therefore is the second one. What I need here is the Registration Number before I order a certificate.
