Family History Societies - Scotland

Family History Societies in Scotland where Shetlanders have migrated:

  1. Aberdeen & North-East of Scotland Family History Society....The Aberdeen & North-East Scotland Family History Society exists to assist and promote the study of genealogy and family history based on the North-East corner of Scotland. This area covers the old counties of Aberdeenshire, Banffshire, Kincardineshire and Morayshire.

  2. Caithness Family History Society....Caithness Family History Society was formed in September 1999 by a small group of enthusiasts and has already grown to some 350 members worldwide. Our aim is to promote an interest in genealogy and, wherever we can, to help others trace their roots  - especially families originating from Caithness.

  3. Fife Family History Society....Welcome to the official website of Fife Family History Society. The site contains resources for genealogy research covering the Fife area, and information about Fife Family History Society, which was formed in 1989 to join together people with an interest in the research of their Fife ancestors. The society produces a journal 3 times a year and holds monthly meetings. Fife Family History Society now has over 700 members both in the local area and throughout the world.

  4. Glasgow and West of Scotland....The Glasgow & West of Scotland Family History Society was founded in 1977. We aim to promote the study of family history, particularly in Glasgow and the west of Scotland, covering Argyll & Bute, Ayrshire, Dunbartonshire, Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, and Stirlingshire (part). A close relationship is enjoyed with the Mitchell Library and Glasgow City Archives, and we are indebted to the staff for their interest and support.

  5. LanarkshireFamily History Society ....Lanarkshire Family History Society exist to help people research their family history primarily in Lanarkshire's parishes, in addition we also hold information on other areas of Scotland. Use this site to further your Lanarkshire research. Check out our Publications List; see the society's own publications including Monumental Inscriptions, Death Records, and various CDs covering all of Lanarkshire's Parishes. We also stock many additional Books, CDs, Alan Godfrey Maps, Stenlake Books and Family Tree Charts.

  6. The Lothians Family History Society....The Lothians (Midlothian, East and West Lothian) - Formerly the Midlothian FHS, the LFHS is a non-profit making Society consisting of members interested in promoting the study of genealogy and family history, starting and extending research into family roots, and in furthering interest in and facilities for genealogical research. We are situated in Bonnyrigg which is just a stone throw away (7 Miles south) from Edinburgh.

  7. The Orkney Family History Society.... The Orkney Family History Society was formed in 1997 and is run by a committee of volunteers. The main objectives of our society are:

    1. To establish a local organisation for the study, collection, analysis and sharing of information about individuals and families in Orkney.
    2. To establish and maintain links with other family history groups and genealogical societies throughout the UK and overseas.
    3. To establish and maintain a library and other reference facilities as an information resource for members and approved subscribers.
    4. To promote study projects and special interest working groups to pursue approved assignments.

  8. Tay Valley Family History Society....TVFHS Research Centre is located on the east coast of Scotland, at 179-181 Princes Street, Dundee, and remains one of the principal centres of Family History Research in the Tay Valley area, which comprises the counties of Angus, Fife, Kinross and Perthshire. Tay Valley Family History Society has a continuing strong worldwide membership, and is a member of the Scottish Association of Family History Societies (SAFHS).

  9. West Lothian Family History Society....West Lothian Family History Society was formed in November 2000 to assist those researching family history and genealogy throughout the county of West Lothian. This site is intended to promote the new Society and showcase everything and anything of interest.
